Name: Isory Santana Espinal
Apprenticeship program: The New York Jobs CEO Council Spring 2023
Role: Technology apprentice

Why is an apprenticeship program right for you? 

After completing my initial 12-week apprenticeship while I was still a student at the City University of New York (CUNY), I knew that I wanted to pursue a full-time role at Deloitte because of its culture, as well as its people. The work is challenging and exciting and I have always felt well-supported here and enjoy how much Deloitte aims to make an impact.

What personal or professional goals do you hope to achieve during your program?

My goal is to advance to the highest level of the software engineering profession, wherever that takes me. I want to continue working on innovative projects and make valuable contributions to my team and our projects.

What piece of advice would you give to others considering an apprenticeship program?

Three things: 1) network with others, 2) be open to learning, and 3) ask a lot of questions.

Apprenticeship program: C&M Salesforce Apprentice Program
Role: Salesforce consultant apprentice

Why is an apprenticeship program right for you?

I’ve always had a passion for hands-on learning and knew that with the apprenticeship program, I would develop real-world knowledge and skills that can be specifically applied to the field I want to grow in. I also know the importance of having mentors and experienced professionals guiding my learning journey.

What personal or professional goals do you hope to achieve during your program?

I hope to use my experience in this apprenticeship program to build the foundational skills that I need to become a future solution architect. Skills such as gaining Salesforce platform proficiency, earning certifications, and developing my on-the-spot problem solving skills to help clients and organizations identify helpful solutions that can make a positive impact.

What piece of advice would you give to others considering an apprenticeship program?
If you get the opportunity, you should jump on it! And once you’re in it, you should be open and proactive in your learning journey, remain committed and dedicated and never underestimate the value of the skills you’ve gained in your previous experiences as they can be extremely useful in the transition of your career fields.

Role: Data scientist apprentice

Why is an apprenticeship program right for you?

I’ve always been a self-taught learner, but I knew that I needed a training program that would help me build the foundational skills that would allow me to succeed in the field of data science and analytics. I enjoyed participating in in learning opportunities through Deloitte’s AI Academy. I am excited to continue my learning journey in the New Business Innovation Apprenticeship Program.

What personal or professional goals do you hope to achieve during your program?

My main goal through my journey of becoming a data scientist is to use my skills to make something useful. I want to work on projects that will be meaningful and helpful to the end users, whether it be the people at Deloitte or someone in the communities we aim to serve.

What piece of advice would you give to others considering an apprenticeship program?

I would say, figure out what it is you want, be prepared to put in the time and effort, and don’t let anything stop you from getting to it.
