The Public Innovator’s Playbook
Nurturing bold ideas in government
Developed with the Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation, The Public Innovator’s Playbook includes insightful examples and lays out a blueprint for embracing innovation in the public sector. It is intended to be a tool to help develop and sustain a culture of innovation.
For innovation to take root, The Playbook recommends adopting innovation as a discipline in the government organisation just like strategy, planning, and budgeting. This includes a methodical view of the creative process linking the mission to organisational structure, process, people, and reward systems, and a culture where anyone can contribute ideas – employees, stakeholders, citizens, private organisations and governments from other states or countries.
