Our climate pledge isn't written on paper, it's made of trees.

Deloitte's Carbon Forest

Climate change is the defining issue of our time and right now, we all stand at a climate crossroad. We have a clear-eyed view to a resilient and sustainable future for Australia and are on a mission to be Australia’s leading climate and sustainability adviser. And we’re leading by example.

Discover our good thinking in action.

We’re not a big emitter, but our footprint matters and we’re on a journey to transition our own operations to net zero by 2030.

We have already transitioned to 100% renewable energy in our buildings and are engaging with our suppliers to drive down supply chain emissions beyond our own. We are committed to ways of working that reduce business travel and we are actively supporting industry and clients in the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) as a long-term solution to the current emissions reality of business travel.

After these reductions, our greenhouse gas emissions are forecast to be between 25,000 and 30,000 tonnes per annum. Where possible, we will generate our own high-quality nature-based offsets through Deloitte's Carbon Forests. We are in the process of acquiring c2,000 hectares of land, and after approval from the Clean Energy Regulator, intend to plant a variety of native trees to sequestrate carbon and enhance the land’s biodiversity.

We have already acquired two properties in Victoria and NSW, and subject to regulatory approval, will offset about 50% of those remaining GHG emissions.

As we grow and expand Deloitte's Carbon Forests, we will continue to purchase offsets to meet our net zero operations target, phasing this out as our forests come to maturity.

Our commitment in action

Using our Voice

We are proud of our work as a founding member of the Climate Leaders Coalition, an organisation of fifty CEO’s of Australia’s leading businesses with a common voice on why big business sees decarbonisation as critical to ensuring long term economic sustainability.

In 2021 leading into COP26, we sought to shift the climate debate from cost to opportunity. Our publication, The Turning Point, estimated that co-ordinated action around climate change could reap a $900b dividend for the Australian economy over the next fifty years. Conversely unchecked climate change could cost the economy $3.4 trillion. The Business Council of Australia adopted this modelling in their landmark October 2021 commitment to Net Zero 2050.

In partnership with the World Economic Forum we supported the global roll out of the Climate Governance Initiative, including joining with the Australian Institute of Company Directors to establish the Australian Chapter. Together, we have invested in preparing pragmatic and topical guides for Board Chairs and Directors to equip them to work with their leadership teams on this urgent journey.

Our Footprint

To transition our own operations to net zero by 2030, we have already converted our offices to 100% renewable energy and begun the development of Deloitte's Carbon Forests a 2,000 ha fully owned nature-based offset. As we grow and expand Deloitte's Carbon Forests, we will continue to purchase offsets to meet our net zero operations target, phasing this out as our forests come to maturity.
