Uncovering the trends impacting general counsel and law firms

The legal profession has experienced a number of trends that have impacted the industry over the last five to 10 years, such as increased consolidation, technological advances and a weakened economy. These factors have led in-house counsel and law firms to drive and shape company strategy, manage organizational risk and operational efficiency, as well as ensure growth opportunities in their organizations.

To illustrate these shifts, Deloitte has released two new reports, Spotlight on General Counsel and Spotlight on the Legal Services Sector ‒ the result of interviews with close to 100 General Counsel and law firms across Canada. The results tell us all about the evolving industry – everything from changing role descriptions, top legal issues and priorities, as well as how strategic and operational changes are impacting the legal business in Canada.
