Asia: Powering World Growth

13-14 January 2014, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

Deloitte's participation as the Diamond Sponsor

The 2014 forum took a closer look at the future role of the Asian economy, and the implications for financial markets and businesses in the region.

Deloitte was sponsoring the keynote luncheon and also hosted a workshop entitled "Financial Service Innovation: Powering the Growth of Asian Financial Services" on 14 January.

Deloitte sponsored keynote luncheon

Mr. Timothy Geithner

As Secretary of the Treasury during President Obama’s first term, Timothy Geithner was a leading figure in the US Government’s response to the global financial crisis of 2008. With the on-going political debate over the debt ceiling in the US, can monetary policy alone be sufficient to tackle the crisis? Geithner offered his views on the pace of recovery in the US and globally, as well as potential financial-sector risks ahead.

Financial Service Innovation: Powering the Growth of Asian Financial Services

Date: 14 January 2014 (Tuesday)
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Venue: Hall 5E-G, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Language: English with simultaneous interpretation

Workshop details:
In the years following the advent of the global financial crisis, Asian economies have experienced major, sustained growth and have continued to play a bigger and bigger role in the global financial system.

At the same time, as is typical of periods experiencing deeply disruptive events, financial services were transforming at a quickening pace around the world.  Major innovations and enabling technologies transformed wholesale and retail transactions and payment systems, investment processes and products, and even the nature of currency.

The workshop considered the future of financial services and the imperative for innovation, raising these broad questions:

  • What are the most important examples and trends shaping the future of financial services in an increasingly digital and connected world?
  • What steps should financial service providers, both traditional and emerging, take to thrive in this new environment?
  • What is the optimal direction for financial regulators to support the success of their financial service sectors?
  • How can Asian financial service companies achieve and maintain high value positioning on a regional and a global scale?
