Three lessons on leadership
DTTL Global CEO Barry Salzberg speaks about the qualities that business leaders need to thrive
Salzberg delivered his remarks during the commencement ceremony for the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business on 21 April 2011.
Salzberg offered three related lessons in leadership. Specifically:
- In a flat world, leadership needs to be flat. In a global world, there need to be leaders throughout the organizational levels—more people serving as leaders than ever before.
- Leaders need to be transparent. In a socially-networked world, there are few hiding places, and transparency builds the trust needed to lead with credibility.
- In the end, leaders learn best from other leaders. Leaders at all levels must continue to pass the baton and commit to developing the leaders who will come after them and so on.
