Deloitte and the British Paralympic Association

Creating the best prepared team for Rio 2016

Deloitte has been a proud sponsor of the British Paralympic Association (BPA) since 2007, working in partnership with the organisation through two Summer and two Winter Paralympic Games, ahead of Rio 2016.

The success of the London 2012 and Sochi 2014 Games, compounded by the expansion of the ParalympicsGB team (athletes and supporting staff) highlighted the requirement for the BPA to take deliberate steps to re-visit their team development strategy. With a depth of Olympic and Paralympic experience, Deloitte’s world-class Human Capital services were the only choice.

One crucial element of sending our best prepared team to the Games is our incredible collaboration with Deloitte.

The challenges of Rio 2016

This summer’s Paralympic Games is immensely different to what has been previously experienced; eight years have passed since ParalympicsGB last sent a team to an ‘away’ Summer Games. The scale, pressures and complexities have not been experienced by many of the BPA staff – whilst many of the team only work together every four years.

In the last four years, Deloitte worked closely with the BPA to create the Team Development Programme (TDP). Divided into two strands, and delivered by a team of Deloitte people, the programme supported the development of all staff involved in the Games so that they can deliver world-class support to the athletes when it matters most.

Team Leadership programme

An integral role in supporting athletes, Team Leaders are the single point of contact for athletes before, during and after the Games. Deloitte designed a programme for the new staff using learning needs analysis techniques that were based around each individual’s existing experience at international events.

Four sessions focusing on leadership, resilience, influence and persuasion ensured the team were ready to guide their athletes on the path to Rio glory.

Confidence and Competence

The absolute focus for ParalympicsGB is performance. Deloitte has equipped over 20 of the ParalympicsGB delegation with the confidence and competence to ensure they can lead when in Rio, ultimately providing the best Games-time environment for athletes to compete – best prepared.

We look forward to celebrating a decade of impact with ParalympicsGB on the biggest stage of them all come September 2016.

Deloitte Parasport inspires ParalympicsGB athlete

Whilst originally designed to encourage disabled people of all ages and abilities to be more active, Deloitte Parasport has also served as a valuable opportunity for talented athletes to progress into elite level sport.

Rio 2016 is the first Games in which a Deloitte Parasport alumni will compete.
