Deloitte support Team GB on the ground in Rio

Two years since Deloitte first started working in partnership with the British Olympic Association to develop and implement their operational programme for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the country, and world, now watch expectantly.

Behind-the-scenes, 366 athletes and up to 650 support staff who make up Team GB, arrive at their final destinations ready to compete. In advance, three Deloitte secondees have been strategically positioned at the heart of the action to deliver and execute world-class operational expertise. This is their story. This is their impact.

“The fusion of internal knowledge and skills that we have at the British Olympic Association with world-class strategic programme management, operational planning capabilities and a tireless focus on organisational readiness from Deloitte means we can truly say we head to Rio as the best prepared Team GB squad that has been to an away Games.”
Bill Sweeney, CEO, British Olympic Association

Deloitte with Team GB home away from home

“Team GB was one of the first National Olympic Committees to enter the Olympic Village which gave us maximum time to turn the world class facilities provided by Rio 2016 into a home-away-from home for Team GB athletes.
Every aspect of operations, from the dedicated performance centre to the bespoke athlete support is considered for performance enhancement with seamless integration critical to developing the mindset that the team can create history.”

Amelia Ashton-Jones, British Olympic Association Programme Director, Team GB Games HQ Manager and Deloitte secondee

“Every item of training equipment has been delivered as part of a huge logistical operation. I’ve managed the delivery of 22 sea-containers, containing over 80 tonnes of vital kit. Knowing the teams are refining their performance as a result of this is extremely satisfying.”

Will Stockdale, Team GB Preparation Camp Manager and Deloitte secondee

“We are proud to tell the world we are delivering the best work of our lives, whilst helping ensure the British Olympic Association is able to do the same. Because only then do we give Team GB athletes the opportunity to do the same.”

Deloitte with Team GB welcome

“In the four weeks leading up to the Games, over 60% of Team GB athletes across 23 sports attended our preparation camp in Belo Horizonte.
It is challenging to ensure facilities and timetables for all athletes worked simultaneously, but being on-site to build relationships with all stakeholders is helping ensure Team GB maximise use of the camp.”

Will Stockdale, Team GB Preparation Camp Manager and Deloitte secondee

“The British Olympic Association is a leading global National Olympic Committee; everything we do is about being best in class. Whether supporting sports and athletes to be the best or preparing Team GB for the Games, having Deloitte on board is integral to that story."
