Premier League on course for a new record

1 September 2015

As the 2015 summer transfer window enters its final hours, Deloitte’s analysis shows that gross spending is on course to reach a new record. Total Premier League clubs’ gross transfer spending currently stands at £790m, £45m short of the record set last summer (£835m).

With the other major European league transfer windows having closed last night, Premier League net transfer spending is also set to be a record, currently standing at £400m – being the net amount that flows to overseas clubs and Football League clubs.

Alex Thorpe, Senior Manager in the Sports Business Group, commented: “Last year we saw £85m of spending on deadline day and with further business expected over the coming hours, it looks set to be another record summer of spending for the Premier League.

“With the other European transfer windows having closed last night, the Premier League is again confirmed as the leading league in terms of transfer spending this summer.

“This level of spending continues to be driven in large part by the increases in domestic and overseas broadcast revenue in recent years.”

The Sports Business Group will release its analysis of the 2015 summer transfer window after the close of the transfer window at 18:00 on Tuesday 1st September 2015.
