The new digital divide

Deloitte’s research shows that today digital interactions influence 36 percent or $1.1 trillion of in-store retail sales.

2013 Holiday Survey

Naughty or nice? How will retail sales fare this season?

More than just a palm reading, Deloitte's annual holiday survey is grounded in nearly three decades of research. Polling more than 5,000 consumers on their spending habits, the survey gauges shoppers' expectations and intentions for the year-end holiday season. With a broad range of data, it offers key findings for regional and national retailers, industry executives, and media.

The survey has uncovered and reconfirmed important consumer trends that are critical for making sound business and planning decisions. From the consumer's expected spending due to uncertainty in the economy, to rising energy costs and a stagnant labor market, the data in the holiday survey offers recommendations for better retail promotions and service strategies.

Each year, Deloitte surveys a representative sample of U.S. consumers to learn more about their holiday shopping plans. Explore highlights from the 2013 survey, conducted between September 13-23.
