PAYMENTS TO TAX AUTHORITIES: CHARGEABLE RETURN REMITTANCE AND LATE PAYMENT CONSEQUENCES STARTING SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2021

Overview

As already reported in our Tax News some departments of the tax authorities were merged due to the Financial Organizational Reform Act (Finanz-Organisationsreformgesetz), which entered into force on January 1st, 2021. As a result of the tax administration reform, the merged departments received new bank accounts.

Return remittance in case of tax payments to the wrong bank account starting September 30th, 2021

Until September 29th, 2021 tax payments to previous bank accounts of the now merged departments are transferred to the correct accounts by BAWAG P. S. K. free of charge.

Starting September 30th, 2021 tax payments to previous bank accounts of the now merged departments are no longer accepted and will be returned to the client for a fee.

To avoid additional costs such as late payment surcharges, reminder expenses or chargeable return remittance, the specific bank account number should be checked before the next tax payment is made. Additionally, transfer order templates and standing orders should be reviewed. Especially if one makes a payment in connection with a voluntary self-disclosure, special attention should be paid to the bank account number.

The table below provides the current bank account numbers for the merged departments (the bank account numbers for the remaining departments did not changed):
