Countdown to 2030

Bold action for a sustainable mining future

This report delves deeper into the responses from this competition and explores seven critical actions the sector must take over the next seven years to create a more sustainable mining industry.

Deloitte also shared the responses of this competition with mining executives at the 2023 Diggers & Dealers mining forum in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. At this three-day mining conference we asked mining
executives the same question we asked future leaders. Their ideas were illustrated at the Deloitte exhibition booth and here's a digital representation of the ideas captured at this conference.

Mining underpins almost half the global economy, and demand is only growing. The sector will play an indispensable role in the shift to green energy – its challenge is to transform in a way that supports a healthy society, economy and environment.

It’s time for the mining and metals industry to tell the story of how the sector can provide for and enhance the prospects of the population and the planet – including the critical role it will play in the energy transition,” says Ian Sanders, Deloitte Global Mining & Metals sector leader.

Mining companies also need to help shape circular economies, solve workforce challenges, accelerate innovation and keep people and nature at the heart of decision making.

The countdown to 2030 is on. Today, we look to young people as the future leaders of the industry.
