Tech is our new normal, disruptors are the future: celebrating 20 years of Tech Fast 50 Australia

When Tech Fast 50 Australia launched in 2000, the world was exhaling after the Y2K glitch failed to hit. It had threatened to tick us into a technology-induced disaster, but we glided into the new millennium with little more than hangovers and text messages on our Nokia 3210s to tell the story.

At this point, our lives were mostly analogue, but the digital world was picking up pace and in the early days of Tech Fast 50 the technology companies who made the ranks were just starting to weave their way into our lives.

Twenty years on, technology has transformed the world and is ingrained in every part of our lives. Tech Fast 50 has been there at every step, celebrating the innovators and disruptors who had the vision, guts and determination to reinvent the world.

Today, as we grapple with a global health crisis, technology is no longer the threat but the solution, and Australia’s tech sector continues to develop and build the products and services that are allowing people to stay connected, work, learn, and shop, and to be entertained, informed and out of harm’s way.

The visionaries, innovators and disruptors from twenty years ago paved the way for our digitally connected world today.

Tech Fast 50 follows the story of our digital lives and is a barometer for the future, with companies like Seek, Webjet, Atlassian, Afterpay and many others rising through the ranks to become local and international powerhouses.

We will continue to celebrate this resilient and inspiring community to make sure they keep disrupting, innovating and leading to help the world take on the many challenges ahead and lead us to a brighter future.
