Our partnership with Sydney WorldPride and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Deloitte is a place where diversity belongs.

At Deloitte, we believe in authenticity. When we bring our true selves to every aspect of our lives, we invite others to do the same, creating a butterfly effect of powerful and vibrant change.

Our three-year partnership with WorldPride and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (2022 – 2024) has given us the opportunity to be part of broader discussions about diversity and inclusion – not just for our LGBTI+ communities, but for those of different cultures, identities, genders, and the First Nations community.

Deloitte is an employer of choice for LGBTI+ Inclusion, having achieved Platinum Employer Status through the Pride in Diversity Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI). This official recognition comes as a result of achieving 4 golds within the last five consecutive years.

In 2023, our teams were proudly involved in the following Sydney WorldPride events:

  • Mardi Gras Parade
  • Fair Day
  • Human Rights Conference
  • Pride March

Sydney WorldPride may be over, but Deloitte will be back in 2024 and proudly marching in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.

We’ll again be bringing our Wonderful, Proud and Free mantra to the parade, coming together to celebrate authenticity, empowerment, and the beauty of diversity, where love and acceptance reign supreme and everyone has the right to be free.

We’re ‘Wonderful, Proud and Free’ at Sydney WorldPride

How we showed up at the Sydney WorldPride Human Rights Conference

Deloitte was the official research and insights partner for the festival's three-day LGBTI+ Human Rights Conference, the largest such event ever to be held in the Southern Hemisphere, aiming to promote the fundamental rights and freedoms of the LGBTI+ community. Across the three days, the ICC was filled to the brim with hundreds of attendees and speakers, energised to explore the big wins and the biggest human rights concerns here and abroad. At Deloitte’s Executive Breakfast, our CEO Adam Powick unpacked global perspectives on the pursuit of human rights in a powerful fireside chat with the US Special Envoy for LGBTI+ Human Rights, Jessica Stern, and the UK Prime Minister's Special Envoy on LGBTI+ Rights, Lord Herbert.

It took a huge team effort to win the bid for Sydney to host WorldPride in 2023. This iconic global festival has been hosted every few years in different cities since 2000 and is designed to celebrate our global LGBTI+ community.

Our commitment to DEI and LGBTI+ inclusion

“When individuals can truly be their authentic selves they can work more purposefully. Our DEI strategy and actions are focused on putting this belief at the forefront of all our conversations –with our people, our clients and the community, and we are continuously improving our policies, frameworks and initiatives to create an inclusive and safe environment for everyone to be their best.”

Chief People and Purpose Officer, Pip Dexter

In 2020, we launched the third ‘Outstanding 50 LGBTI+ Leaders Report’ in partnership with Google and EnergyAustralia, dedicated to sharing share the impactful stories of LGBTI+ role models and further inspiring our entire community to work towards creating more inclusive workplaces and communities. The purpose of this report is to help LGBTI+ people ‘be what they see’, inspiring a new generation of leaders from many diverse parts of our community.

Deloitte Australia and our LGBTI+ Network StandOUT, partner with LGBTI+ community organisation Rainbow Families who are the voice for and champion of LGBTI+ families and prospective parents in NSW.

As part of our workplace giving program, our people can sign up to support a charity of their choice which is automatically deducted from their salary on a monthly basis. The LGBTI+ charity in Deloitte’s workplace giving program is Rainbow Families.

After being awarded Gold Employer status for four consecutive years (which is awarded to the top 10% of organisations submitted), Deloitte has been awarded Platinum Employer Status at the 2022 LGBTQ Inclusion Awards. Hosted by Pride in Diversity and measured against the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), Platinum Employer recognition acknowledges the highest levels of performance within the AWEI over a sustained period of time and is the result of the consistent effort and actions across the organisation to foster a culture of inclusion and respect.

We’re committed to creating a workplace that is truly inclusive. Ensuring our people feel valued, supported and safe is vital to creating a culture where all of our people can bring their true and best self to work. We know that when an individual affirms their gender in the workplace, their requirements and experience will be unique. Dedicated, flexible support options are available to all our people, to ensure a positive experience and a successful process. At Deloitte, we aim to provide flexibility and choice in how our people care for their children. We know that families come in all shapes and sizes, our enhanced parental leave policies offer flexibility and support for our people, so they can combine work and family while managing their time and financial commitments. Our policies are inclusive of all types of families including birth, adoptive, surrogate, foster and same-sex parents. We also encourage all our people to add their personal pronouns to their email signatures as we know that sharing personal pronouns – regardless of gender identity – is an impactful step to strengthening our inclusive culture.

As a firm, we understand that we have a lot to learn, and that a great future requires truthfulness about the past. We are excited to become increasingly bolder about the opportunity to put Indigenous insights at the centre of the way we work and carry ourselves as an organisation.
