The Net Zero Tenant

Buildings account for almost a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in Australia and therefore have an important role to play in decarbonising the economy and limiting the impacts of climate change.

For many organisations, emissions relating to their leases (e.g., commercial offices) are a material part of their overall emissions footprint and net zero ambitions. This is particularly true in low emission sectors.

This paper sets out the main sources of emissions from buildings, with a particular focus on a tenant’s perspective. It also set out a number of opportunities for tenants looking to reduce their emissions footprint from leased properties – both those with existing leases and those in the process of negotiating a new lease.
