Addressing domestic and family abuse
The Luke Batty Foundation
The Luke Batty Foundation (LBF) was formed in 2015 after 11-year-old Luke Batty was murdered by his father. The foundation, set up by his mother Rosie, was dedicated to campaigning for an end to violence against women and children. For the past three years Deloitte Australia has provided pro bono and other support to LBF.

The chairman of the Luke Batty Foundation Mr Andrew Fairley confirmed in February 2018 that Rosie Batty would step down from her role as Chief Executive Officer and that as a result LBF will be wound down.
Mr Fairley said, “Out of the most harrowing of circumstances, Rosie emerged as a leading voice calling for societal change to the way that we speak about, respond to and work to prevent domestic and family violence.”
Mr Fairley said the Luke Batty Foundation has ceased receiving donations and is developing a plan to wind up operations. “The Board has appointed a transitional Chief Executive Officer to manage this process. It will include completion of current projects, an assessment of whether other longer-term projects should be reconsidered and the distribution of funds to appropriate not-for-profit family violence initiatives in line with the purpose of the Foundation,” he said.
Commenting on her decision to stand down, Rosie said: “This is a difficult decision but I know it’s the right decision – I need to step away from my public role for a while and take time to breathe.” She said the past four years had been “gruelling” and “unrelenting.”
“The Luke Batty Foundation has supported me on this amazing but bitter sweet journey and has enabled me to advocate and campaign in a way that would otherwise have been impossible. However, it is now taking steps to respectfully close its doors and transition its programs so that Luke’s legacy can continue to give voices to victims of family violence.”
The Deloitte Foundation has been proud to support Rosie Batty and the Luke Batty Foundation in their mission to bring greater awareness and action on family and domestic abuse. Their advocacy work has been instrumental in major policy reforms in the state and federal family law systems.
Deloitte remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing domestic and family abuse.
