Our First Nations Internship Program is designed to provide students from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background with meaningful work on projects, including projects supporting the Indigenous community. Our internship programs are designed to develop skills and potentially lead to a graduate role in the future. 

Aimed at penultimate year* university students, this program allows Australian First Nations university students to work on projects, including those that support Indigenous communities and connect with First Nations leaders in business.  

It provides comprehensive learning and industry experience aligned with your chosen field of study and opportunities for you to give back to the community through high-impact, meaningful, and purpose-led projects. 

*Penultimate year: Second-year students of a three-year degree or Third-year students of a four-year degree, etc. We are flexible with eligibility, so please apply as usual for a discussion. 


Applications open:  28 February - 10 April 2024.

Internship start date:  Flexible dates in either July 2024 or November 2024.

Connectivity 

Alongside formal mentoring and professional development, you’ll have opportunities to connect and share perspectives with First Nations leadership and employee groups, providing an invaluable voice on Deloitte’s First Nations strategy and business matters that impact First Nations communities.

Community 

The program will provide students meaningful opportunities to connect and give back to local Indigenous communities. 

You will work on projects contributing to First Nations cultural matters as part of this. You’ll connect with others across the Firm, including Senior Leaders and community members, whilst developing key skills in the art of storytelling and listening.

Our First Nations Program is right for you if :

  • You are a penultimate-year student (expecting to graduate in 2025)
  • You are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.


Our program for 2024 has opportunities in Consulting Climate & Sustainability, Infrastructure & Project Solutions, and Deloitte Access Economics teams. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Along with supplying your CV and documents relating to your university degree, our team may ask that you support your application with a confirmation of heritage/eligibility at a later stage of the selection process - our team will be in touch to advise further on this.

Internship start:  Flexible dates in either July 2024 or November 2024.

Our online assessment is an immersive, client-focussed set of virtual activities that are intended to give you a taste of what it may be like to work with us, along with helping us learn more about you. And following the assessment, you’ll receive a bespoke feedback report about your individual strengths and abilities. This isn’t the outcome of your assessment, but it will provide you with valuable advice on developing your skills and making the most of your potential.

Note: If you’ve applied for multiple roles with us, you will only need to complete the online assessment once.

You'll receive a call or email from our team advising if you're successful in progressing to our Assessment Day. Depending on your location, the interview may be hosted in-person or conducted virtually.

Expect to join us for a morning or afternoon where you’ll participate in several activities with other students. Your Assessment Day experience with us will vary depending on the role and business area you could be joining; but expect information sessions and networking opportunities, to a group case study exercise and a 1:1 interview with a leader from our business.

We'll look to deliver outcomes quickly after your Assessment Day activity. Whether that's telling you that you’ve been successful, or we’re giving you some advice on how to improve for next time, we’ll be in touch as soon as we can. We always do our best to communicate with you throughout the process too.

If your final stage assessment is successful, we’ll offer you a job and your exciting journey with us really begins.

- If you’re not successful this time

You may have been unsuccessful for all sorts of reasons. So, be sure to ask for feedback from our team, who can provide helpful advice and pointers.

You’re always welcome to reapply into future program intakes as well, eligibility requirements permitting of course.

Tax and other benefit implications

Internship payments will contribute to the recipient’s taxable income and may also impact entitlement to Commonwealth benefits such as ABSTUDY.

The Internship applicants and/or recipients are encouraged to contact Centrelink, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and/or their taxation agent to obtain advice about the implications of the Internship payments on current earnings and benefits. Information about taxation is also available from the ATO website.
