The economic employment and business value of advertising

Deloitte Access Economics has examined the value of advertising to the Australian economy, and how it can be used by business and government to achieve strategic objectives.

Advertising has always been core to the operation of the market economy. For as long as people have traded goods and services, advertising has been used to provide information to potential customers, promoting sales and economic activity.

The positive impact of advertising on the economy is much bigger than direct spending. Advertising helps bring businesses and consumers together. It is a critical foundation for the operation of a market economy. Annual expenditure on advertising in Australia is significant, worth $12.6 billion in 2014, almost 1% of GDP.

The Communications Council commissioned Deloitte Access Economics to examine the value of advertising to the Australian economy, and how it can be used by business and government to achieve strategic objectives.
