In 2012 The Butterfly Foundation commissioned Deloitte Access Economics to examine the economic and social costs of eating disorders in Australia. This review was supported by an advisory panel of experts in eating disorders, mental health and population health.
More than 913,000 people in Australia had eating disorders in 2012. The total socioeconomic cost of eating disorders was $69.7 billion.
