11 June 2014: Professional services firm Deloitte Australia has 15 new partners joining its growing Western Sydney practice, part of a national total of 93 new partners announced today.

In a challenging professional services market, Deloitte also announced annual revenues of $1.162B for the year ending 31 May 2014, up by 6.5 per cent on its revenues from the previous year.

The Western Sydney appointments, which take effect on 1 July 2014, include four new partners promoted from within Deloitte, a senior partner transferring from Deloitte Brisbane and 10 experienced lateral hires. Nine of which joined following the union with Moore Stephens Western Sydney earlier this year.

The four newly promoted partners are:

  • Andrew Coleman, (Assurance & Advisory)
  • Theo Psychogios (Financial Advisory Services - infrastructure advisory and contestability)
  • Eamon Fenwick (Tax)
  • Karl Gessner (Deloitte Private).

Western Sydney Managing Partner Danny Rezek said, “With 30% revenue growth over the last 12 months, we have expanded to a 350 person Western Sydney practice, with a total of 35 partners across our Parramatta and Norwest offices, making us the fastest growing of all Deloitte offices in Australia.”

“We believe this growth will only continue as Sydney expands west driven by one of the fastest growing urban populations in Australia and an extremely competitive commercial property market.

“Significant infrastructure investments, such as the $11.5 billion West Connex project and the second airport at Badgerys Creek, will serve as a catalyst for job creation, investment and further economic growth,” he added.

“However, while we are making progress there is still much to be done. I remain determined to maintain Deloitte’s leadership role in the Western Sydney business community as the professional services provider that is best equipped to help local, national and international businesses position for prosperity,” Mr Rezek said.

One key area of future growth is helping businesses in Western Sydney to grow through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and asset acquisitions.

Commenting, Western Sydney Financial Advisory Services leader, Neil Cussen said: “We see a lot of growth in corporate transactions driven by Asian in-bound capital looking for investment opportunities in the region. Typically they are looking for large infrastructure projects or commercial acquisitions that give them a foothold in the Australian market.”

“To help support this growth we are delighted to welcome Paul Childers who has been a partner in our Brisbane office for the past seven years and will bring his significant depth of M&A experience to Western Sydney”, continued Neil. “Paul will be joined in the Parramatta financial advisory team by newly promoted partner, Theo Psychogios who is an infrastructure advisory specialist.”

Rounding out the new Western Sydney partner group is Tony Morris a lateral hire who specialises in workplace health and safety. Prior to joining Deloitte, Tony was Director of The Brief Group, a specialist workplace health and safety consultancy practice and a former Senior Lawyer for WorkCover’s Prosecution Division. Prior to joining WorkCover Tony was a Prosecutor and Detective in the NSW Police Force.

Reflecting the impact of Deloitte’s investment in innovation and design thinking, Deloitte also won both the Accounting Firm of the Year and the Audit Firm of the Year in the Financial Review CFO Awards 2013 – the first time in the awards’ history that any firm has taken out both awards in the same year.
