25 Champions to drive delivery of 200,000 great new jobs for NSW

  • The Hon. Stuart Ayres, MP announces 25 Designing Western Sydney Champions to take forward first bi-partisan economic blueprint for Western Sydney.
  • Champions to work with business and government leaders to deliver blueprint recommendations and help drive the region’s jobs growth over the next five years.

8 December 201525 Designing Western Sydney Champions were announced this afternoon by the Hon. Stuart Ayres, MP at the launch of the first ever business-led blueprint for jobs creation in Western Sydney, Shaping Future Cities: Designing Western Sydney, at Rosehill Gardens in Parramatta.

Shaping Future Cities: Designing Western Sydney marks the start of a new partnership between the state government and regional stakeholders and is the culmination of the collective efforts of over 400 individual business, government and community leaders from across Greater Sydney. This Deloitte authored blueprint examines Western Sydney’s comparative strengths and provides a roadmap to help businesses, communities and local councils capitalise on these strengths at a time when Western Sydney is booming.

The 25 Designing Western Sydney Champions were announced by Minister Ayres, Member for Penrith, following the official launch of the blueprint by the NSW Premier, the Hon. Mike Baird, MP. The nominated Champions are leaders from industry, business, government agencies and education and cultural institutions across Greater Sydney. They represent the cross section of stakeholders involved in the development of the blueprint, which sets out recommendations for the economic transformation of Western Sydney.

The 133 blueprint recommendations are grouped under 25 strategies, focused on one of three stages; building platforms for jobs growth, creating jobs or connecting local people with these jobs. The Champions will each lead one of the 25 strategies, working collaboratively with business and government leaders to deliver the blueprint recommendations and help drive the region’s job growth towards the blueprint’s target of 200,000 great new jobs over the next five years.

Deloitte Western Sydney Managing Partner, Danny Rezek, one of the report’s authors, commented following the launch: “We are delighted to be announcing these individuals as Designing Western Sydney Champions here today. These leading Sydney figures are well positioned to drive the implementation of the blueprint recommendations. Their involvement in the development of the blueprint, together with their evident ongoing commitment to the success of Western Sydney, means we can be confident that these 133 initiatives will progress under their leadership.

“Western Sydney is poised to be an economic powerhouse, making a significant economic contribution to both the State and Nation. We look forward to continuing our commitment to making this happen, not only through the leadership of the 25 Champions and the NSW Premier, who has today endorsed and launched the blueprint, but also with the support of the 400 stakeholders involved in the development of the report who have also made a commitment to taking the blueprint forward through the signing of a charter here today.”
