3,000 Deloitte staff to take part in IMPACT Day

Employees rally to make a positive contribution to the community

13 November 2015: An estimated 3,000 of Deloitte Australia’s 6,000 employees will take part in IMPACT Day on Friday, 20 November at one of 300 charitable volunteering events run by the firm.

People from Deloitte’s 17 offices in Australia, PNG, the Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste will participate in what will be the firm’s biggest IMPACT Day to date.

According to Deloitte Australia’s CEO Cindy Hook, “IMPACT Day, which has been held annually since 2010, is a very special day for our firm. It enables our 6,000-plus people to spend the day giving back to the community at hundreds of skilled and general volunteering events around the country. It is one of the ways, as a firm, we are being true to our purpose, which is to make an impact that matters.”

A 2015 survey of Deloitte employees found that 98.5% of respondents said it was important or very important for Deloitte to be a responsible business and a good corporate citizen.

“As well as having a positive impact on the community, events like IMPACT Day are great connectors between our people and our teams. They offer us opportunities to interact with each other in different situations, while underscoring our belief in the value of diversity of experience and thought,” Cindy said.

This year, along with Australia’s first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, among other female leaders, Cindy will spend IMPACT Day participating in an event aimed at helping young women to reach their potential. Organised by Australian world champion surfer Layne Beachley’s Aim for the Stars organisation, the event will bring together high profile women from different fields to share with the next generation of women some life lessons on the way to leadership. It also aims to raise funds to double Aim for the Stars’ scholarship program for 2016.

With a community impact valued at millions of dollars—and an increased emphasis on skills-based volunteering—Deloitte workers will, among other charities, work with:

  • Muru Mittigar – videography for Indigenous charity
  • Sydney Jewish Museum – providing feedback on an ‘unconscious bias in leadership’ pilot workshop
  • Oxfam in PNG –a skilled workshop
  • Mummy’s Wish – stuffing teddy bears for children whose mothers have cancer
  • Clean Up Australia – cleaning up Sydney foreshores
  • AMES – participating in activities with migrants and refugees
  • OzHarvest – cooking BBQs for homeless people and collecting food
  • Our Big Kitchen – Preparing and serving soup to those in need

  • Medecins Sans Frontieres – writing thank-you cards to donors
