Team from The Checkley Group to further boost Deloitte health sector advisory services
1 FEBRUARY 2022: Deloitte is adding to its growing, market-leading health sector advisory practice, with the team from specialist healthcare and digital health consultancy, The Checkley Group, to join the professional services firm.
The Checkley Group was founded by current Managing Director Bruce Pedersen in 2007, and provides services across health technology strategy and innovation, enterprise and solution architecture and program integration.
The move follows Deloitte’s 2021 transactions involving Paxton Partners (financial and operational performance improvement, program and evaluation services) and Siggins Miller (strategy development, evaluation research, organisational and system design and policy advice).
The 15-strong Checkley Group team is based in Sydney, with additional market presence in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. Bruce Pedersen and co-Managing Director, Alicia Curry, will become Deloitte Consulting partners in the Technology Strategy & Transformation team.
Deloitte Australia national health sector leader, Luke Baxby, said: “We have been investing significantly in health-related expertise, capabilities and client offerings for some time to meet market demand, from strategic policy thinking and financial sustainability, to technology design and implementation and financial management.
“As a result, we are strongly positioned to help our clients meet their biggest challenges with a comprehensive range of health sector advisory services – and The Checkley Group adds to this strength.
“Meeting Australia’s healthcare needs – today and into the future – is complex, and public sector agencies and private sector businesses have to be increasingly adaptable and efficient when it comes to their operations and rising costs of service delivery, while remaining totally focused on patient expectations and outcomes.
“The rapid, technology-driven pace of change experienced by the sector is certainly one of its major challenges, and particularly in the context of COVID-19, health sector agencies and operators are focused on system rationalisation and modernisation and enabling new service delivery models, including virtual care.”
Deloitte Consulting managing partner, Ellen Derrick, said: “Digital is a key enabler of integrated and efficient health service delivery, and there is strong demand from the sector for support in successfully adopting new technologies to drive efficiency and improve the patient experience.
“Our teams have enjoyed working alongside The Checkley Group on client engagements, particularly in the area of electronic medical record implementations and enhancements, and welcoming Bruce, Alicia and their team to Deloitte will see us further strengthen our ability to support our clients, and Australia, in the delivery of a digitally-enabled health system of the future.”
The Checkley Group founder and Managing Director, and soon-to-be Deloitte Consulting partner, Bruce Pedersen, said: “We have built a niche position in the market around health technology strategy, design, execution and optimisation, and a successful business based on everyone in our team having extensive experience in, and a passion for, great digital health outcomes and healthcare delivery.
“Joining Deloitte will add breadth and scale to the advisory services we know industry operators in Australia are crying out for. It is certainly an acknowledgement of our vision, and what we have achieved in our business, and represents an exciting career opportunity for our people.”
The Checkley Group Managing Director, and soon-to-be Deloitte Consulting partner, Alicia Curry, said: “This move will take the types of technology-driven services we offer to the next level.
“It’s a natural fit for us, great news for our collective clients, and for new opportunities when it comes to making an impact, delivering value, and helping to shape the future of Australia’s health services.”
The Checkley Group team will formally join Deloitte Consulting on 14 February 2022. Terms of the transaction are confidential.
