3 October 2014: Following the hugely successful Codeworks hackathon event hosted by Deloitte and Transport for NSW on 20 and 21 September, eight winners have been chosen to develop new apps and other products to benefit NSW road users.

Supported by experts from Deloitte, Transport for NSW and Roads and Maritime Services, a diverse group of around 80 local app developers, designers, entrepreneurs, students and transport specialists came together at the hackathon, vying for the right to create apps that will benefit road users like never before.

Jamye Harrison, Lead Partner - NSW Transport Cluster, for Deloitte said: “We were thrilled with the calibre of participants in Codeworks, which was a fantastic event. These are worthy winners and we are looking forward to supporting them on the next stage of their journey to create ground-breaking products on behalf of Transport for NSW.”

The winning app concept designs include advanced journey planning, alarms and alerts to advise customers of optimised departure times, as well as ideas that address the needs of specific customer groups such as car-pooling for parents or delivery drivers.

The winners are:

Team Product proposal
Toastedmint Provides transport options to determine the quickest and easiest routes for road users.
SkedGo Provides real-time road information to the public in the context of their trip with calendar integration.
Hot Chocolate A feature rich application that allows users to enjoy an end-to-end road journey with calendar integration.
Compiling Compares multiple transport options to determine the fastest and easiest way.
Appjourney Select the optimal route to avoid congestion and incidents.
Transnotion Provides an effective way for parents to car pool.
Somecat Studio Helps users find a better departure time or mode of transport for reduced travel time.
OzPoint Provides delivery drivers with a trip planning solution.

Deloitte will continue to support Transport for NSW by providing incubation support for the eight winners, as they finalise their products over the coming months. This will adapt to suit the individual needs of each winner, but will include mentoring and coaching around technical development and commercialisation.

"We are combining Deloitte's deep expertise in digital technologies, transport, data analytics and design to support the winning teams to develop unique solutions for NSW road users," observed Jamye Harrison.
