Deloitte Access Economics: Australia’s leading economic consultancy hits New Zealand shores
17 November 2017: Deloitte Access Economics has launched in New Zealand.
Since its formation as Access Economics nearly 30 years ago in 1988, and joining professional services firm Deloitte in 2011, Deloitte Access Economics has experienced significant growth – into a team of 150 professional economists, and Australia’s leading economic consulting practice.
Deloitte Access Economics Lead Partner Stephen Smith said the Tasman move was another logical step in the growth of the group.
“Deloitte Access Economics has deep specialist skills across macroeconomics, microeconomics, health economics and social policy, and competition and regulatory policy, and a strong commitment to delivering client value when it comes to providing insights and advice.
“We have achieved incredible growth in the Australian market, particularly since joining Deloitte, and contribute to action and debate on Australia’s most important economic and social issues.
“Australian businesses, public sector organisations and not-for-profits are sophisticated consumers of economic consulting and advisory services. They see value in what we do.
“We want to continue to build on our growth in the Australian market, but we also see opportunities in New Zealand which we believe has been under-served when it comes to the breadth of economic and social challenges faced by clients, and the high value advice we deliver.”
Deloitte in New Zealand has built a small but respected team of economists, led by partner Linda Meade in Wellington, and is expecting strong growth in economic consulting, in its own right, and as a key component of its client services.
“The links between the teams are already strong, so the time is right to combine our Australian and New Zealand teams under the Deloitte Access Economics banner,” Smith said.
Deloitte Australia CEO Cindy Hook said: “Demand has continued to grow for leading economic consulting, modelling and forecasting since Access Economics joined Deloitte.
“The pace of business and regulatory change drives demand in this area for government and businesses.
“Economic forecasting and analysis is a real differentiator for our firm, and replicating this in the New Zealand market is an exciting move for Deloitte, on both sides of the Tasman.”
Deloitte Australia Financial Advisory Managing Partner Clare Harding said: “Employing some of the best economists in the business, Deloitte Access Economics is Australia's leading provider of economic advisory services.
“Our team’s success in combining deep economic rigour with practical commercial advice is helping to shape conversations around any number of social, political and business issues, deliver business insights and inform investment strategy – here in Australia, and now in New Zealand.”
As the largest economic practice within Deloitte globally, Deloitte Access Economics also continues to assist other Deloitte practices globally to deliver high quality economic advice on the major social, financial and economic issues facing our clients.
