Deloitte Australia names Richard Deutsch as new CEO
14 August 2018: Deloitte Australia is proud to announce the appointment of Richard Deutsch as its new Chief Executive Officer in Australia, succeeding Cindy Hook.
Partners of the firm overwhelmingly approved the Board’s decision to promote Mr Deutsch, the current Managing Partner, Assurance and Advisory, and member of the Executive Leadership Team, to the CEO role for the next four years.
Deloitte Australia Chairman Tom Imbesi said; “Richard is one of the most experienced executives in Australian professional services today with a track record of success and a great vision for the future.
“In a firm with outstanding candidates, choosing Richard was no easy decision. It was his passion for driving our culture of collaboration and innovation, and his strategy for the coming years, that stood out and the Board agreed he was the right person to guide Deloitte Australia into the future.”
Mr Deutsch takes over from Cindy Hook who is stepping up to become Chief Executive of the newly created Deloitte Asia Pacific after almost four years of leading the Australian firm.
“I’m humbled the Board members have placed their faith in me to take the Australian firm forward. Under Cindy, we’ve achieved remarkable growth of 15 percent for four successive years and I’m up for the task of building on that momentum.
“My goal is to make Deloitte the undisputed leader in the market place. We will attract and retain the best people, help our clients realise their goals, and make an impact on our communities.” Mr Deutsch said.
Mr Deutsch joined Deloitte in 2015 from PwC where he held senior leadership roles for more than 10 years in Audit, Consulting and its market strategy.
Tom Imbesi said, “As a firm, Deloitte prides itself on attracting, encouraging and developing exceptional people to play to their strengths and reach their full potential; whether they’ve joined us from outside the firm or been promoted from within. Richard’s new appointment to CEO is a great example of this."
Mr Deutsch said, “We have great people at Deloitte and it will be a privilege to lead an organisation where our clients and our people tell us it’s our culture that sets us apart.
“Deloitte is poised to seize the opportunity amidst the host of changes we face – from the changing global landscape, to new and emerging technologies, to evolving regulatory, societal and employee expectations.”
Mr Deutsch leads Deloitte’s program for Non-Executive Directors and is a deeply passionate supporter of the not-for-profit sector. He is the Chairman of OzHarvest and a board member of Adara, a charity supporting children, their mothers and communities in Nepal and Uganda.
“We will further amplify our purpose, our diversity and inclusion strategy and our wellbeing agendas. In doing this we will provide greater support to our people in building resilience and continue to develop our relationships with indigenous communities,” Mr Deutsch said.
Mr Deutsch will sit on the Executive of Deloitte Asia Pacific – bringing together Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand and Southeast Asia to allow for greater investment and more seamless client service for clients in Australia, across the Asia Pacific region and around the world.
Together, Deloitte Asia Pacific expects to make an additional investment of US$321m across the five geographies over the next three years.
A marathon runner in his spare time, Mr Deutsch is married with three children. He lives in Sydney and will formally start in the position on 1 September.
