Deloitte ranked among the 2014 Employers of Choice for Gender Equality
Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA)
New awards recognise nation’s ‘leading practice’ employer role-models
12 November 2014: Deloitte Australia has been ranked among the 2014 Employers of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).
The firm is one of only 76 Australian business organisations to have received the prestigious accolade, with the number of employers recognised almost halved since 2012.
The new WGEA citation now comprises more rigorous pre-requisites making Deloitte’s achievement this year particularly impressive. The EOWA Employer of Choice for Women awards were last awarded in 2012 to 125 recipients, a citation Deloitte received for 11 consecutive years.
“As the country’s best talent increasingly seeks out employers committed to achieving gender equality, we are excited to have our track record of continued commitment in this area recognised,” Deloitte Chief Executive Officer, Giam Swiegers said.
“This has been an inspiring, 15-year journey for our firm. The statistics tell the story.”
- Deloitte has gone from 4 female partners in 1998 to 125 in 2015
- Of the 54 new partners promoted in 2013, 31% were women.
- In 2014, women represent 22% of the partnership
- Women now represent 27% of the Deloitte Board
“The progress we have made towards gender equality is the result of a sustained commitment to our Inspiring Women’s Strategy, launched in 2000, and our flagship program, Deloitte Business Woman of the Year (2003), led by Deloitte partners Margaret Dreyer and Alec Bashinsky,” Mr Swiegers said.
“As a leadership team we have always been very clear that this is not about experimenting with the latest fad, it is about recognising that gender equality requires a long term view and commitment to remain focussed on driving change,” he said.
“Whilst we remain proud of the recognition and progress we have made, we need to ensure as a firm we do not become complacent. We don’t always get it right. However we do remain committed to creating awareness of both the challenges and opportunities of fostering a culture at Deloitte where we continue to champion gender diversity.”
Deloitte’s Inspiring Women’s Champion, Margaret Dreyer said, “Our success is pleasing and we are proud of our achievements. But we must never lose sight of the fact that there is always more work to be done on the journey towards gender equality”.
Deloitte Chief Human Resources Officer, Alec Bashinsky, said, “This award is evidence we are building a brand that we can be proud of, one that our people can respect; one that embraces difference not just tolerates it and one that fosters an inclusive workplace that all our people can thrive in”.
The Director of the WGEA, Helen Conway, said, “Recipients of the 2014 WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citations can be distinguished by their commitment to ‘doing’ rather than simply ‘talking’. They are driving the lasting cultural and organisational change that is essential for any organisation committed to maximising the potential of women and men.”
“Leading companies are increasingly realising diverse and inclusive workplaces are a baseline feature of well-managed organisations. Successful applicants for the WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation are the standouts in this area.
“Holders of the 2014 WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation should be celebrated and championed as leading practice role models and innovative thinkers on issues of workplace gender equality,” Ms Conway said.
