Deloitte launches festival of social innovation

16 October 2014: Deloitte has joined forces with The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI), as principal sponsor of the Changemakers Festival, ten action packed days of over 100 events aimed at sharing ideas on how social innovation can tackle some of our toughest social challenges.

The events will be part of a nationwide celebration of the people, methods and ideas that can make a positive impact on these social challenges.

Deloitte is hosting nine events in its offices across the country using its people and their business skills to assist in strengthening the strategies and operations of Not for Profit and Government organisations. Its focus is to assist them working together ‘to do more and do better’.

Activities include pitch festivals for social entrepreneurs to win $5000 worth of Deloitte mentorships, showcasing successful social models such as micro-financing e.g. Good Returns and profiling the impact and benefits of the digital revolution in areas such as social advocacy, e.g. change.org.

Over the 10 action-packed days—from the 17th to the 26th October— more than 10,000 people will attend over 100 events and contribute to change in the world.

•Tuesday 21 October - Deloitte Sydney will hold a thought-provoking panel discussion on: ‘Creating Profit with Purpose: Using Business for Good’ from 6:30pm

Speakers will include David Cooke Managing Director, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia, Michael Gonski, Partner, Herbert Smith Freehills and Guy Winship Chief Executive Officer, Good Return.

The event will be facilitated by Deloitte partner, Tharani Jegatheeswaran, who leads Deloitte’s Not-for-Profit Advisory Practice – a specialist consulting practice dedicated to strengthening the capacity of the NFP sector and NFP organisations.

Our panelists will share their passion for utilising business to achieve both profit and social purpose, demonstrating that ‘for profit’ and ‘for good’ can converge. The panel will be followed by a Q&A session.

Description: Four local social innovation entrepreneurs will pitch their unique idea for social change to a special panel of Deloitte professionals, before a short Q&A session and feedback is provided. The audience at the end of the evening will be asked to vote for their favourite idea, and the entrepreneur with the most votes will win a prize designed to help develop their idea further.

Canberra

Details: 4 November, lunchtime

Description: Canberra Deloitte office will be hosting a social innovation pitch. Three local social entrepreneurs will be invited to pitch their unique idea for social change to a panel of Deloitte professionals. The panel will conduct a short Q&A session and provide feedback before asking the audience to vote for their favourite idea. The entrepreneur with the most votes will receive mentoring support from Deloitte to help further develop their idea.

Launceston
