Health sector advisory team from Paxton Partners to join Deloitte

6 July 2021:  Deloitte Australia will further add to its market-leading health advisory practice, with the team from Paxton Partners to join the firm’s Consulting business.

Founded in Melbourne in 1999, Paxton Partners specialises in financial and operational performance improvement, program and service evaluation, clinical, digital, business and management advisory services to clients in the health sector, and increasingly to operators in human services and education.

The 13-strong team, led by Julian Maiolo, Sean Chung and Rob Gilbert, will continue to be based in Melbourne but maintain its national presence. With deep experience in the healthcare industry, Maiolo and Chung will become Deloitte Consulting partners.

Deloitte Australia Consulting Managing Partner, Ellen Derrick, said: “The health sector is facing increasingly complex demands, particularly in the face of funding constraints, with incredible opportunties to leverage technology and new service models to transform delivery of care.

“Deloitte is the market leader in professional services in this space, and the specialist skills of the Paxton Partners team will further enhance the capability available to state and federal health departments, other funders, insurers, sector operators, public health services, not-for-profit health providers, private hospital groups and investors.

“They are a natural fit for our business, and I am excited to be welcoming Julian, Sean and their people to our Consulting team."

Deloitte Australia’s Finance and Performance Consulting Leader, Paul Wensor, said: “Delivering equitable and affordable access to quality health and social care is a key focus for policy makers, service providers and other stakeholders."

The Paxton Partners team tailors innovative and workable solutions to assist clients to meet service provision challenges, and do more with less, including responding to reforms in governance, funding and performance frameworks.

“Their arrival will also support our growing capabilities in digital health, program and service evaluation, funding models, service planning, and business intelligence to support client issues such as electronic management records and medication management and innovation."

Incoming Deloitte Consulting partner, and Paxton Partners director, Julian Maiolo, said: “This is a momentous decision for Paxton Partners, one that we are confident extends our capability and scale to complement our already long standing reputation and deep experience to the Australian healthcare sector.

“Even before we’ve commenced with Deloitte, we’ve already had a great appreciation of where our collective experience will provide a unique mix of strategic, operational and financial expertise to the Australian and Asia Pacific region."

Also incoming Deloitte Consulting partner, and Paxton Partners director, Sean Chung, said: “The last year has been an incredible period of disruption globally, and no more so than in healthcare. It has solidified the true value of the deep understanding and expertise in healthcare that we have built over many years. This has helped us to support our clients to not only respond, but to take the opportunity to strengthen and do things differently.

“Our team has established a solid reputation in the market for high quality work and our collaborative and flexible working style. We are excited to bring our expertise and approach to Deloitte, to complement the broader resources of the firm and expand our collective level of impact in the healthcare sector."

The Paxton Partners team will formally join Deloitte on 1 August 2021. Terms of the transaction are confidential.
