Deloitte announces the highest ranked organisations in the inaugural Australian Privacy Index
- Highest ranked government organisation: Australian Taxation Office
- Highest ranked commercial organisation: Commonwealth Bank of Australia
- Government and banking and finance organisations performed best overall in the Index
6 August 2015: The highest ranked government and commercial organisations in the inaugural Deloitte Australian Privacy Index were recognised at a breakfast hosted by Deloitte.
The winning organisations were the Australian Taxation Office - the highest ranked government organisation - and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia - the highest ranked commercial organisation.
“In particular our two winners’ websites showed good evidence of one of the key themes of the Australian privacy principles – transparency - by providing easy to follow privacy material and good detail on how personal information is handled including the contacts to get more information.”
“Both the winning organisations received positive feedback from more than 1000 Australian consumers who were surveyed about their views on how well Australia’s 104 leading consumer brands are doing when it comes to privacy,” said Deloitte lead partner Cyber Risk Services, Tommy Viljoen.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Commonwealth Bank of Australia have:
- A trusted brand according to consumers
- Few or no major privacy events reported in the media.
In addition the ATO ranked well as it has:
- Fewer third party cookies tracking consumer behaviour
- Cookies on their website which do not stay on the consumer’s device for a long time.
To determine how Australia’s 104 leading consumer brands perform against privacy best practice, Deloitte supplemented its survey with website and media analysis. The Privacy Index also includes qualitative verification from the brands across 11 industry sectors.
