The Deloitte Australia and New Zealand Bribery and Corruption Report 2020

Navigating with confidence

Deloitte's biennial survey of Australian and NZ risk leaders reports their perspectives and experiences of bribery and corruption.

In the wake of the Coronavirus, Australasian organisations are entering a period of unique uncertainty, pressure and potentially global recession.

Under these extremely challenging circumstances, bribery and corruption may become attractive to struggling businesses and their executives. But to support our communities and work together calmly, confidently and resiliently, now is the time to lean into our ethical standards, not abandon them. The decisions leaders make now will affect their organisations long after the crisis is over. The sustainability of their businesses in the reputation economy is at stake.

Deloitte’s Bribery and Corruption Report 2020 shares seven key insights from our anonymous survey of Australasian risk leaders like CEOs and CROs. These findings, based on the experience and perspectives of our respondents, will help Australian and New Zealand organisations across the public, private and not-for-profit sector to determine what they need to do next to arrive at anti-bribery and corruption resilience, and navigate with confidence.

About the report

The Deloitte Australia and New Zealand report on bribery and corruption is a two-yearly initiative that collects data from risk leaders on their perceptions and experiences of bribery and corruption. ‘Bribery and corruption’ captures a range of forms of dishonesty, including conflicts of interest and nepotism.

The data in this report derives from selected results of a survey conducted by Deloitte Australia and New Zealand between October and December 2019. The survey was completed anonymously by 159 respondents from a cross section of industries, including ASX200 and NZX50 companies, Australian and New Zealand subsidiaries of foreign companies, public sector organisations, not for profit organisations and other listed private companies.

Our report offers unique insight into what Australasian organisations need to do now to protect their businesses from bribery and corruption.
