The Symbiotic Relationship: Getting the balance right

In our 2018 Deloitte Privacy Index we examine how the top 100 brands in Australia communicate what they are doing with their customers’ personal information.  We then rank those brands by sector. We also asked a sample of 1000 Australians what data they provided the brands and what they expect in return.

Consumers were also asked what influenced their decision to share their personal information. Each brand uses this personal information differently. Some commoditise it, others create a more customised experience.

In either case we find that transparency with the consumer on how their personal information will be used and protected is critical. It comes down to a mutual value exchange which is why this year’s index is called the Symbiotic Relationship: Getting the balance right.

In the interests of building a resilient and sustainable Australia we also list some of the ways privacy practices can be better communicated and executed.
