Updated ASX Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations

From 1 July 2014 listed entities need to disclose their exposure to economic, environmental and social sustainability risks.

The updated ASX Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations should be applied by listed entities on an ‘adopt or explain’ basis from 1 July 2014. The key recommendations include:

  • Disclosure of material exposure to economic, environmental and social sustainability risks
  • Being a ‘good corporate citizen’ through respecting human rights, creating a safe workplace and dealing with ethical and responsible suppliers for example.

To comply with the principles and recommendations, listed entities should perform an analysis of their exposure to economic, environmental and social sustainability risks and determine their approach to reporting and disclosure. This should be subjected to a formal review of the process and outcomes and also be linked to the wider business strategy and risk management processes.
