Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy published the Instructions on Proceedings with Work Booklet after June 30 2016 on its official website.

The Instructions prescribe the mandatory procedures of employers while filling out work booklets before handing them back to workers, as well as the deadline by which all work booklets must be returned to employees (the deadline is on 31 August 2016).

Work booklets after 1 July 2016 will retain the status of a public document and may be used as evidence in proceedings of identifying rights to pension and disability insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance.

After 1 July 2016 employees will be able to obtain data relevant for the exercise of the right to pension and disability insurance, as well as other rights, from the Federal Institute for Pension and Disability Insurance and from the Federal Tax Administration.
