Putting tomorrow’s consulting leaders to the test
SAP and Deloitte bring together top students for co-innovation competition
Deloitte once again teamed this year with SAP to sponsor the SAP Co-Innovation Event, a competition designed to inspire the next generation of business and technology consulting leaders. The event—held in early August 2018 at Deloitte University in Westlake, Texas—brought together 64 students from 16 US universities to compete in a challenge using SAP software to address a real-world business challenge.
This year marked the fourth year that Deloitte has hosted the event, which shines a spotlight on individuals who can help tomorrow’s organizations reimagine everything—an entire universe of possibilities with SAP solutions. The event also provided students with practical experience and a strong sense of the value Deloitte delivers to clients every day.

Rising to the challenge
The three-day competition included students from SAP University Alliance programs who are learning from leading business and technology curricula that incorporate SAP solutions—students who are engaged and passionate about SAP technology, and who already understand its power and potential.
The competition required students to solve real-world business problems with SAP technology. This year’s challenge involved a customer-engagement transformation for an apparel retailer—with needs to provide a consistent customer experience across channels, improve CRM capabilities, more effectively leverage and manage data, and develop an integrated technical landscape across multiple business units. Teams also were tasked with using SAP Commerce Cloud to add functionality to a company website.
As a bracket-style tournament, the 2018 SAP Co-Innovation Event saw four teams making it to the “Final Four”—with three teams ultimately walking away with prizes.
- 1st Place—University of Oklahoma—with each student winning a $500 gift card
- 2nd Place—Villanova University—with each student winning a $250 gift card
- 3rd Place—Texas Christian University—with each student winning a $100 gift card
Other participating universities included Atlanta University Center, California Polytechnic State University, Delaware State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Grand Valley State University, Indiana University, North Carolina State University, San Diego State University, St. Louis University, Texas A&M University, University of Colorado (Boulder), University of Southern California, and Virginia State University.
