Supporting the European Commission to shape the European Smart Middleware Platform
With the ongoing exponential growth of data, there is a pressing need within the EU to provide access to resilient and competitive data storage and processing capacities for both the private and the public sector. The European Commission (EC) aims to address the need for more data sharing and decentralised data processing closer to the user at the edge. This could bring several benefits, such as greater productivity, improvements in health and well-being, environment and climate change adaptation, transparent governance and convenient public services.
To support the above-mentioned ambitions, through the DIGITAL Work Programme, the EC will procure an open-source, multi-vendor, large-scale, modular and interoperable Smart Middleware Platform. The smart middleware will be the basis for a European Cloud Federation enabling the operation and interconnection within and in between various European data spaces and the safe migration of the users to the cloud.
Over the course of the past months, the European Commission and Deloitte worked on defining the architecture and implementation roadmap of the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of the Smart Middleware.
On May 30 2022, Deloitte organises a public event to showcase the results of the ‘Preparatory work on an open-source, cloud-to-edge smart middleware platform’ project.
