King Philippe visits Deloitte and talks to young employees about their motivations and expectations

Brussels, Belgium - October 12, 2017

King Philippe today visited Deloitte Belgium in Gateway, the building at Brussels Airport which the service company moved into earlier this year. He was received by Piet Vandendriessche, CEO of Deloitte Belgium. King Philippe met 21 young staff members and discussed their motivations and expectations with them. Deloitte recruited 900 people last year and expects to hire a similar number in the current year. The company employs 3883 people in Belgium.

King Philippe's visit was part of his visit of Brussels Airport, where he was presented the strategic plan Forum 2040.

Piet Vandendriessche, CEO of Deloitte Belgium, is delighted about this high-level visit: "It is a great honour for our company to be able to welcome the King. King Philippe encourages the development of young talent – and by doing so, he is sending an important signal. If we want to be prepared for the challenges of the future, it is crucial to give young employees every opportunity to develop their talents."

Knowledge and entrepreneurship

At Deloitte Belgium, the King met 21 young company employees with a maximum of 3 years’ work experience. In the course of a number of workshops, he learned more about their motivations and what attracts them in the professional service provider. One of the workshops took a closer look at how young people can give meaning to their work by developing their strengths and talents – one of the pillars of Deloitte’s HR policy.

The subject of another workshop was how Deloitte is creating an inclusive and flexible environment which combines a strong work ethic and fun. Additionally, the (international) growth opportunities within the company were highlighted: over the past year, 700 Deloitte employees have moved on to new positions.

Piet Vandendriessche: "We want to create a transparent, dynamic environment at Deloitte that provides room for personal and professional growth. Employees need to be given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, take on new challenges and develop their entrepreneurial skills in a supportive, varied environment. We believe that the diversity of a team is as important as the individual skills of the team members.”

On the lookout for 900 employees

Deloitte Belgium is a major employer in our country. The company provides work for over 3883 people. Having recruited 900 new employees in the past financial year, it expects to hire a similar number in the current year. Between June and early October, a peak period for recent graduates, more than 550 new employees started work there. By 2020, Deloitte aims to reach the mark of 4300 employees.

Piet Vandendriessche: "These solid recruitment figures reflect our success in the market. Deloitte is capitalising on general market trends such as digitisation, internationalisation and increasingly complex regulations. The fact that we are doing so successfully means we are looking for the right talent to facilitate our growth."
