Why you should consider to start working as a tax consultant at Deloitte Accountancy?
Katrien Willoqué tells you why!
Dear (future) tax specialist, tax consultant, tax lawyer,
Instead of just sharing the job opening for the tax consultant or tax manager that we are looking for to join our team, I would like to take a limited amount of your time to explain what I love about my job. This in view of convincing you that you should, at least, consider to start a career at Deloitte as a tax consultant.
My background is extensively written down in my profile, but in short: I studied law and took a master in tax law. I started my career as a lawyer but switched to Deloitte after a few years, since the proactivity of advisory suited me more than the litigation practice. Today I'm mainly working for privately owned companies.
The great thing about my job is that no two days are the same. One day I am advising a client on the structuring of a real estate investment, the next day I am involved in a transfer of a business and the day after I am discussing with my colleagues the technical details of an 'unclear' (what else) new tax law that has entered into force.
The great thing about my job is that no two days are the same.
I am passionate about tax, which is - I believe - a must in case you sign up to getting involved in this technical, ever changing and exciting business. But tax is much more than filling out a tax return. As a tax specialist I have the prerogative to be involved in almost every step a company is taking at whatever moment of its lifetime, because tax is everywhere. Moreover, working at a fully integrated organisation as Deloitte means that it's never just me. I have the privilege to collaborate with and learn from my colleagues specialised in finance, strategy, social law, reporting, even family dynamics, as a result of which I obtain a good insight on the concerns and drivers of a company and its decision takers. This means that - as a trusted advisor along the way - I get fully involved with my clients, feel delighted and even proud when they are successful and sympathize with them when things are not going as planned.
As a tax specialist I have the prerogative to be involved in almost every step a company is taking at whatever moment of its lifetime, because tax is everywhere.
Deloitte offers me a dynamic framework to practice this diverse job, supports me in taking initiatives, grants the opportunity to develop myself further, to study, to get in contact with interesting people. I am proud of being part of the big Deloitte community with specialists not only in Belgium, but all over the world to reach out to.
But, what I really cherish the most about my job is the interaction with people, be it clients when helping them taking decisions, my younger team members when trying to make them as passionate about tax as myself, fellow tax advisors when arguing on a technical matter or be it colleagues when having a Friday night drink in our very own bar and playing a match of table soccer.
I practice tax, but in the first place I work with people and I am building relationships which gives me the possibility to make an impact that matters … every day.
That is what I love about my job! Happy to welcome you in our team (or to at least discuss this opportunity with you).
