Mieke & Jérôme

How did you make the switch from Deloitte to the work you do now?

Mieke: Since joining Deloitte in 2005 as a Tax Consultant in the VAT department in Antwerp, I spent a decade developing my knowledge and competencies. In 2015 while on an outsourcing project at Ravago, I was offered a role as a VAT expert. Having worked my way up the ropes, I’m now Tax and Accounting Manager for the Group.

Jérôme: After finishing my law degree in 1998, I joined Deloitte as a Tax Consultant in a brand-new department within the Tax and Legal division. During a merger between Arthur Andersen and Deloitte in 2004, I was offered a job from one of my clients. It was too good an opportunity to pass up.

What skills did you acquire at Deloitte that you still carry with you?

Mieke: Deloitte was a great training ground for me because I worked in teams early on, so I understand the importance of cross team collaboration which is crucial in my current role. On top of this, I adopted an attitude of hard work, being proactive, getting up from your desk and talking to people, and looking for solutions – all which have served me well.

Jérôme: Excellence in work. Full stop. And I continue to use it in my day-to-day work. As internal advisors, it’s critical that we’re correct with our recommendations. In fact, it’s more of a personal approach to how one gives advice.
