Digital Consumer Trends 2020 | Theme 1
Lasting lockdown habits
The COVID-19 pandemic, and the resulting lockdown, has sped up consumer digital adoption and introduced new trends, rapidly. Not so surprisingly, online shopping and reading the news, and checking social networks increased in popularity with people being at home more. We did however not forget the importance of spending quality time with friends and family.
Fifty-two percent of Belgian respondents believe that they used their smartphone a lot more during the lockdown. About half said that their smartphone helped them feel less isolated as it enabled them stay in touch with friends and family during that period.
Reading the news and checking social networks increased the most during lockdown. Other activities that saw an increase as a result of staying at home include online shopping for items other than groceries, and offline entertainment activities like reading and spending quality time with family/friends.
