Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 winners talk about challenges for start-ups and scale-ups during round table with His Majesty King Filip of Belgium
Scale up experiences and technology insights shared at the Royal Palace of Brussels
Brussels – 9 January 2019
The winners of the 2018 Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 competition awards today took part in a round table hosted by His Majesty King Filip of Belgium at the Royal Palace of Brussels.
Each company had the opportunity to share its experiences with regard to the start-up and expansion of a successful technology company in Belgium and abroad. They also shared valuable insights into the technology areas that they represent, such as artificial (extended) intelligence, the Internet of Things, sustainable energy/innovation, and cybersecurity and building partnerships and eco-systems between the academic, industrial and technology world.
Great respect and support of His Majesty King Filip of Belgium
Each of the 2018 Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 award winners then presented their companies, highlighting their projects and activities in emerging technological domains and explained the opportunities and challenges that have led them to where they are today, and the obstacles they face in further growing their business. In particular, as knowledge and competence are the main drivers of growth, ‘the talent agenda’ was strongly discussed. One of the biggest challenges of fast growing technology companies is attracting the best talents.
His Majesty King Filip expressed great interest in their journey and the innovative fields of technology that the companies represent, asking questions and engaging in discussion with the company representatives. The topics discussed were artificial (extended) intelligence, the Internet of Things, sustainable energy/innovation, cybersecurity, innovation in financial services and big data, ecosystems between corporate and technology, digital customer experiences, innovation and cost reduction in health care, academic and entrepreneurial ecosystems, and global entrepreuneurship.
Opening the door to new opportunities
Nikolaas Tahon, Managing Partner Deloitte Private, highlighted the importance of growth companies in Belgium: 'Within Deloitte we think it is very important to create a network of successful technology companies and to to open this network to the international and family business world in Belgium. This network strengthens itself through the many interactions between the technology companies, as well as through the specific growth guidance that Deloitte provides for many of these companies. The recognition that King Filip gives to this ecosystem strengthens our ambition to continue to invest strongly in the global relevance of our fast-growing technological companies.'
The Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 competition was launched in Belgium in 2013 to offer fast-growing technology companies -and the award recipients in particular- support and recognition. It also helps them attract customers, prospects and suppliers, as well as investors, business partners, and employees.

There are nine awards in the Fast 50 category: Fast 50 winner, Most Sustainable Growth, and one for each industry category winner.
The Rising Star category recognises companies that have not been in operation for four years, assessing revenue potential rather than revenue growth. There are two awards in this category: Most Disruptive Innovator and Rising Star.
