Deloitte Brunei celebrates 40 years of making an impact that matters
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 31 August 2018 – Deloitte Brunei marked its 40th anniversary on 28 July 2018 with a celebration held at the Tarindak d’Polo Restaurant, Jerudong with 100 staff members in attendance.
Over the past 40 years, Deloitte Brunei has contributed to the successful development of the nation through its expertise and thought leadership in diverse business areas and issues such as audit, tax, corporate secretarial services and accounting services. In recent years, Deloitte Brunei also contributed its expertise in the areas of technology and digital disruption, transformation and cyber security.
It also works closely with the government and key stakeholders to proactively cultivate the local talent pool by facilitating the sharing of new skills and knowledge. This strategic move by Deloitte Brunei aims to develop more future-ready young Bruneians so that they can continue to contribute to the country and thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing marketplace.
In April 2018, the i-Ready Apprenticeship programme under the Manpower Policy and Planning Unit (MPPU), Energy and Industry Department (EID) reached a milestone when seven graduates were selected to start their career abroad with Deloitte in the consulting practice. This was significant as Deloitte Brunei was the first organisation nation-wide to partner MPPU to implement a cross-border placement with the objective of building up the marketability and employability of local graduates.
Under the programme, the seven graduates were selected as the pioneer batch of apprentices to embark on an overseas career through a one-year attachment where they are given opportunities to focus on primary and secondary research consulting work. In addition, they are also given exposure to data analytics that can be of help when tackling more complex business issues.
Deloitte Brunei has also contributed to the local community over the years. Every year, for the past five years, we involve our people in Impact Day, Deloitte's annual volunteer day where we mobilise our people to give back to communities. On this day, everyone in the organisation, put their passion and skills to use for the benefit of our communities.
This year, 24 August 2018, was selected to be Impact day and over 70 Deloitte Brunei partners and employees professionals got their “hands dirty” as they spent a day planting trees at the Berakas Forest Reserve. Under the guidance of experienced staff members from the Forestry Department, Deloitte Brunei employees successfully planted 206 trees in a collective effort to raise greater awareness of nature conservation and promote environmental sustainability. The trees planted included Gaharu, Baru-Baru, Ru Runang and Kapor Paya.
As part of its strong culture to give back to the society, Deloitte Brunei invited six shortlisted potential recruits who are new graduates from local and overseas universities to join them in the tree planting activity. Through this activity, the young graduates were given the opportunity to interact with the Deloitte professionals and learn more about life at Deloitte.
The activities were organised as part of Deloitte Brunei’s on-going corporate social responsibility efforts to make a positive impact on the society that aligns with the larger Deloitte WorldClass initiative that aims to prepare 50 million futures for a world of opportunity through the sharing of skills and knowledge to empower those less-privileged to succeed by the year 2030.
“Congratulations to Deloitte Brunei for achieving this significant milestone. This comes at a very exciting time with the formation of Deloitte Asia Pacific, effective 1 September 2018, where Deloitte Southeast Asia, Australia, China, Japan and New Zealand will come together to strengthen our ability to provide seamless service to our clients in the region,” said Philip Yuen, Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte Southeast Asia.
“Moving forward, Deloitte Brunei, as part of Deloitte Southeast Asia, will be able to leverage on the expanded scale and collective capabilities of our Asia Pacific colleagues to continue to effectively contribute to the country and help Brunei businesses grow locally and regionally, ” added Mr Yuen.
