Deloitte acquires ATD Legal Services
Addition of Profit Hot 50 company gives Deloitte ability to provide end-to-end discovery services for clients’ in-house counsel and law firms.
TORONTO, January 20, 2014 — Deloitte today announced the acquisition of ATD Legal Services Professional Corporation. As part of Deloitte’s Financial Advisory practice, the enhanced team will deliver a complete range of discovery services, including the identification, preservation, processing, hosting, review and production of electronic documents.
“We’re excited to be partnering with a trusted provider in the field of managed document review,” said Iseo Pasquali, Managing Partner of Deloitte’s Financial Advisory practice in Canada. “ATD Legal occupies a unique position in the market for electronic document review and records management services in Canada. This transaction enhances our capabilities, enabling Deloitte to deliver end-to-end discovery services to companies’ in-house counsel and law firms.”
Organizations are increasingly seeking more efficient and cost-effective ways to comply with regulatory requests, complete investigations, or resolve business disputes. ATD provides clients with the option for additional legal support, and it’s one of the few providers of managed document review services in Canada. The company has experienced exceptional growth since its establishment in 2010. Last year, Profit Magazine named ATD Legal as one of Canada’s Hot 50 companies on its annual Profit Hot 50, the definitive ranking of Canada’s new growth companies.
“ATD’s agile business model sets a precedent for how law firms will collaborate with service providers to put forward cost-effective options for their clients in the future,” said Peter Dent, leader of the Deloitte Forensic practice in Canada. “We’re pleased to be able to add their capabilities to our Discovery practice and enhance the range of services we offer our clients.”
“We’re looking forward to combining our talented professionals and client service approach with the analytics capabilities and technology infrastructure of Deloitte’s Discovery team,” said Shelby Austin, founder of ATD Legal Services. “Joining forces will enable us to better meet our clients’ needs by providing them with more options, including the ability to access an end-to-end Canadian solution with one phone call.”
Deloitte’s Corporate Development Office (CDO) supported the transaction. Deloitte’s CDO actively pursues and responds to organizations through merger, acquisition and alliance opportunities that align with the firm’s commitment to client service excellence. “This transaction represents a strategic decision to further add specialized capabilities to Deloitte’s existing services,” said Alexandre Baril, Deloitte’s Corporate Development Officer.
