Deloitte acquires leading crisis management provider
Added expertise in crisis management services will enhance Deloitte’s cybersecurity practice
Deloitte acquires Urgentis Digital Crisis Solutions, a leading provider of cybersecurity and crisis management services.
Toronto, April 24, 2014 — Deloitte announced today that it acquired Urgentis Digital Crisis Solutions Inc., a Calgary-based firm that helps companies prepare for and respond to cybersecurity events. By combining a leader in crisis management with its nationwide cybersecurity practice, Deloitte is enhancing its ability to help companies protect their information assets from increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity risks.
“We’re pleased to join forces with Urgentis, which has established itself as a leader in digital crisis management,” said Paul Zonneveld, Risk Advisory Managing Partner for Western Canada. “Companies are vulnerable to a variety of cybersecurity risks, whether it’s a hacker, a competitor engaging in industrial espionage, or a disgruntled employee stealing trade secrets. With the addition of the Urgentis team, Deloitte’s Cybersecurity group has significantly enhanced its strength in preventing and responding to security threats.”
Recent reports of espionage in the energy sector serve as a timely reminder that companies must be ever vigilant about security – regardless of industry. Urgentis specializes in investigating and responding to cybersecurity events, such as virus attacks or network intrusions, using sophisticated data analytics and investigative techniques. It also provides cybersecurity services to help companies strengthen their information security and better safeguard their data.
“We’re excited to be combining our skilled professionals and technology infrastructure with Deloitte’s cybersecurity group,” said Philip Fodchuk, founder of Urgentis Digital Crisis Solutions. “Urgentis was created to help organizations respond to crises and prevent future ones. This transaction enables us to take the quantum leap in delivering much broader crisis management solutions.”
Deloitte’s Corporate Development Office (CDO) supported the acquisition. Deloitte’s CDO actively pursues and responds to organizations through merger, acquisition and alliance opportunities that align with the firm’s commitment to client service excellence.
“This transaction demonstrates our ongoing commitment to help companies manage the rapidly expanding range of cybersecurity risks,” says Alexandre Baril, Deloitte’s Corporate Development Officer. “We welcome the industry experience and expertise of the Urgentis team.”
