Deloitte welcomes the Right Honourable David Johnston

Firm deepens commitment to improving prosperity for all Canadians by hiring former Governor General

Toronto, October 17, 2017 – Deloitte is pleased to announce that the Right Honourable David Johnston C.C. has joined the firm as an Executive Advisor. The 28th Governor General of Canada will be based in Ottawa and advise in four areas that are essential to building a more prosperous country: innovation, leadership development, inclusion and helping businesses make courageous choices to improve growth and productivity.

Deloitte Managing Partner and Chief Executive Frank Vettese welcomed Mr. Johnston noting, "David has long-served our country, and we are proud he has chosen Deloitte as the place where he can further his work on key issues of importance to the future of Canada."

Mr. Johnston said that he was interested in Deloitte because of the firm's approach to managing the accelerating changes—largely driven by technology—impacting both businesses and communities. "Deloitte understands the disruptive forces at play and is dealing with those challenges with great courage."

He added, "I was fascinated by Deloitte’s efforts to understand change and help their clients prepare for the future, and I'm delighted to have the chance to contribute."

Mr. Johnston, President Emeritus of the University of Waterloo, will be coming home to the Kitchener-Waterloo region to focus on opening Deloitte’s new office in Kitchener's Innovation District and supporting the development of emerging technologies at d{ }, Deloitte's innovation lab located in Communitech.

Mr. Johnston was born in Sudbury, raised in Sault Ste. Marie, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University, later obtaining Bachelor of Laws degrees from both the University of Cambridge and Queen’s University. He taught at Queen's University, the University of Toronto and McGill University and served as principal and vice-chancellor at both McGill University and the University of Waterloo for a combined tenure of over 25 years.
