Average price per hour per person of instruction is $125. For example, a four-hour course will cost the participant approximately $500.

Overview of the Canadian Goods and Services Tax

This session will include the following:

  • GST/HST registration requirements
  • The place of supply rules, including the provincial place of supply rules
  • The recoverability of tax as an input tax credit (“ITCs”) and the requirements for claiming ITCs
  • Customized industry specific rules, such as joint venture election for natural resources entities and supply of natural resources rights

Learning outcomes: Participants will learn about the Canadian GST/HST and how to apply tax to domestic supplies as well as imports and availability of ITCs to recover the import GST.

Overview of the Provincial Sales Tax

This session will include the following:

  • Registration requirements for PST
  • The general PST exemptions available in BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba
  • Differences between real property and tangible personal property in each province and its implication for PST
  • Customized industry specific rules, such as the production machinery and equipment exemption in British Columbia for oil and gas and the required documentation
