Byron Jackson
Director, Nation Building Advisory Services
Byron is a Director in Deloitte Calgary’s Consulting Group, working with the Nation Building Advisory Services Team. He is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Native American Studies, with a focus in First Nation’s governance and business leadership. Byron completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calgary in 2021. Byron has over 12 years of work experience with the Piikani Nation where he worked in several capacities, such as, Consultation Coordinator, Traditional Knowledge Services Director, and has served as the Nations Chief Executive Officer reporting to Chief & Council for over nine years. Byron was a key part of creating the Blackfoot Confederacy Tribal Council and Chief’s Association in 2017. He is a Piikani Nation member who is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy and continues to practice his culture, language, customs, and heritage.
Byron has extensive knowledge of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) funding and programs, Government of Alberta and Federal government programs and systems, extensive knowledge of the Crown claims process and negotiations, First Nations governance methodology, procedural business practices, etc. He has experience in implementing organizational transformation and change management at both the administrative and political levels. Byron is versatile when it comes to consultation and engagement sessions as he has chaired and facilitated many events in the past, such as, community band meetings, executive board meetings, chiefs’ meetings, Chief and Council meetings, committee meetings, etc.
Byron joined Deloitte in October 2021 as a Manager part of the Prairie Indigenous Client Services Team and has assisted with client engagement, business development, strategic planning, and liaison for many of Deloitte’s First Nation clients in Canada. His responsibilities have included facilitating engagement sessions, analysis, review of projects, and guiding strategic implementation to name a few.
