Michael Green shares his impact story

Mike is an active member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Cayman Islands.

Our purpose - to make an impact that matters - guides us in how we support our clients, our people, our communities and our planet.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-on-one relationships that change lives for better, forever. Big Brothers Big Sisters screens and pairs “Big” members of the community with those “Littles” who need them.

Hear how Mike is making an impact that matters!

I have been an active member of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Cayman Islands for around three years. BBBS is committed to providing children and young people facing adversity with a long term, professionally supported, one-on-one relationship that can help influence and change their lives for the better.

I am matched with a 15 year old teenager who is a very keen basketball and football player, and this means we spend a lot of time out on the sports fields improving our skills and bonding. We have developed a great mentoring friendship in the time since we were matched and it is very encouraging to see how my “little” is developing as he grows older.

As well as playing sports we also spend time doing other activities including cooking meals together and talking about his future. The future-orientated conversation and socialisation is an important part for children in this programme, which enables them to seek advice and watch their “big” model decision making and social skills. It is very important to me to give back to the Cayman community through this programme.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved with either the community or in-school mentoring programmes at BBBS to get in touch and find out more.
