I am very grateful to work for a company like Deloitte who values giving back to the community and "making an impact that matters". It makes it that much easier for me to participate in even more initiatives than I would on my own.
Some of my favorite community initiatives that Deloitte has organized and I've taken part in are: the numerous walks and runs to support various charities, blood donations, IMPACT day, intern charity day, Christmas toy drive for Department of Children and Family Services, clothing drives, coin drives and monetary donations. During our stint of working from home during COVID-19, when the firm offered staff the option to donate to Meals on Wheels and Feed our Future and they matched the donation, it inspired me. I made a personal goal for myself to donate monetarily to a different charity each month while we are in this situation.
I started with the donation to Meals on Wheels and Feed our Future and donated to Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) next. My plan for this month is to donate to the Alex Panton Foundation and then I will choose another one if we are still working from home in July.
Lastly, I know that there are a lot of people struggling to get meals right now. With this in mind, one of my favorite ways to give back is to pay for the meal of the person behind me whenever I go to a drive-through. They get a free meal and they never even know who did it (which makes it even more heartwarming for me).
To put a Caymanian spin on this, I have also been giving out mangoes recently. For those who don't know, this is a common tradition in Cayman to share your mangoes during mango season but it feels a little sweeter and more special right now as my family planted a mango tree last year and we are finally seeing the first batch!
Mariah supports:
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels provides free, hot, nutritious meals to seniors, the homebound and the disables throughout the Cayman Islands.
Feed Our Future
Feed Our Future’s mission is to solve childhood hunger and support intellectual nourishment in the Cayman Islands. By funding a nutritionally balanced school lunch program, FOF provides low cost or free school meals to children in need in public and private schools.
