Despite the pandemic, our Deloitte colleagues have risen to the challenge of making a positive difference in the lives of others by actively searching out social projects, cooperating with NGOs and charities to assist the disadvantaged, and putting their skills to good use.
We continue to advance our professionals and leadership ambition to influence change by investing over US$2.3 million in our WorldClass and societal programs.
In the British Virgin Islands, we sponsored various charitable initiatives which included the purchase of laptops for local students online learning needs, donations to COVID-19 small business relief, Promoting Animal Welfare (PAW), and Tree of Hands with RISA. Also donations, participation and volunteer hours towards run/walks and other sporting events such as for BVI Alzheimer’s Association and Rugby Football union.
We recognize the impact of climate change and, through Deloitte's WorldClimate program, have committed to achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2030. This initiative also aims to operate in a green manner, empower individuals, and engage ecosystems. Policies and efforts in place have already assisted our office in reducing emissions, establishing a zero-tolerance policy for plastic in the office, identifying areas for improvement, and encouraging our clients and suppliers to set and accomplish comparable targets.
We are proud of the work our Deloitte BVI staff have accomplished over the past year, despite the pandemic. As we continue to look towards the future, we recognize that there is much more still to be done.
Deloitte BVI will continue and strive to help create a better normal for our people, for our clients and for our community.
